This is another long-standing forum bug which everyone ignores because they're used to the forum being broken.
If you quote text that contains an emoji (using the Quote function):
- it will be displayed in gigantic form in your edited post/comment (before you submit it)
- if you try to submit the post/comment, you will get a forum error
Ofc it goes without saying that this forum platform is so old that it has its own limited implementation of emojis, as opposed to relying on standard OS support (which has been around for 10+ years). This also means that you can't use any emojis that the forum doesn't know about (which is all emojis introduced after a certain date).
Notes:
- The same thing happens if you try to copy and paste an emoji (from one forum post to another).
- You *can* copy a real emoji from another source and paste it into a forum post, you just can't copy a faux emoji from a forum post and paste it into the forums
Test emoji:
Here's what happens when I quote the above emoji in a reply:
And when I try to submit my reply:
All I can say is begged Garmin to use a more modern platform (like Discourse or NodeBB) years ago when the old forum platform was changed, but instead we got this.
