Can the order of the comments in the bug report forum be reversed?

Currently the bug report forum displays the comments in "reverse" order. This is a bit annoying, especially that all the other forums are in the "correct" ordering.

I know, some will comment that that's the good ordering, and all the other forums are not good... but let's be realistic we are all used to how most forums are ordered. So why is the bugreport forum different?

  • So why is the bugreport forum different?

There are many things which are different about the bug report forums:

    - You can vote on bug reports (or rather, ideas)

    - The OP can only be edited for a limited amount of time

    - Comments can't be edited at all

    - Code blocks can't be posted in comments

    - The default sort order of an ideas list is number of votes (descending), while the default sort order of a subforum's thread list is date of last post/comment (descending)

    - Bug reports (actually Ideas) can be assigned a status by Garmin

    I'm sure I'm missing a few things.

Clearly all of these differences are due to the fact that the bug report forums are implemented using some sort of "ideas" module/feature of this forum platform, which is different from the "question"/"discussion" subforums that are also offered by this platform.

I know, some will comment that that's the good ordering, and all the other forums are not good... but let's be realistic we are all used to how most forums are ordered.

If you think of an ideas post as being just like a forum post with linear replies, reverse order is bad.

If you think of an ideas post as being like a social media post with comments, maybe reverse order is ok (look at how comments are ordered on platforms like instagram).

Note that unlike the regular subforums, in an Ideas post, the first level of replies to a comment is actually visually nested under the parent comment.

I agree that the discrepancy is annoying, but it's just another annoyance in a long list of annoyances that cannot or will not be addressed.

  • This has come up before and I've made requests to IT about it—it' not something that can be changed without custom work by the vendor.
