40+ notifications in the past few minutes

Something strange is going on with the notifications.

I had maybe 2-3 unread notifications a few minutes ago, and then it jumped to 30+ and now to 40+.

When I look at them they lead me to old posts.

Ok, most of these posts are from 1-2 months ago. I guess some admin just released them from the hold?

I saw that there were 99 posts awaiting moderation and just went through them and approved most. I'm not sure why they were in moderation.
