rename "Development Discussion" to "Monkey C Development"

I see you're restructuring the forum. Maybe you could change the name of the "Development Discussion" to "Monkey C Development" or even just "Monkey C" to "prevent" questions about Garmin Health api, etc?

  • Good idea. I'll consider that, or maybe "Connect IQ Development" since that's a little more accurate (not all development-related questions are strictly about Monkey C), but the overloaded use of "Connect" in our branding can make things confusing.

I'm trying to organize things a little more, but I want to avoid making a whole bunch of narrowly-focused forums. Slight smile

  • Yeah, it's not easy. Connect IQ is already in the parent forum, so probably won't help to add it again. "CIQ Development" would be probably the most accurate, but those who don't know that this is not the right forum for their question probably won't know/care what CIQ means anyway. And maybe for those "Monkey C" won't help either.

However I'd ask you: what other (non Monkey C) topics do you see fit this forum? Because while monkey.jungle or fitcontributions.xml are not strictly Monkey C, they are all related.

BTW I also noticed that the pinned topics were removed a few weeks ago. I think that it might be a good idea to add some of them back. I think a post like "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING" which explains the topics accepted in the forum can be useful. Even if it won't deter some people posting unrelated topics, it would at least give the moderators the power (not technically, more psycholiogically) to just delete unrelated things, without replying "This better fits the following forum: ..." (because often times "discussions" continue after such a comment)

I especially liked the topic with the open-source Monkey C projects being a pinned topic.

  •  Can't the same be said about "Forum About the Forum" so people don't think this about garmin forums in general?

  • Yeah, I guess it's either something like "Forum about the CIQ forum" or it can be moved outside of Connect IQ, but that's more a question to Brandon about what was his intention.

  • That's why the reply was for Brandon....Slight smile

  • The "Forum about the Forum" was my attempt to separate complaints about forum functionality from more general developer discussions since they don't really belong there. The problem I'm want to address is forum-related issues getting lost in the sea of developer discussion. I typically can't do anything myself to fix forum problems, but I'd like to at least get them reported to IT for investigation. My assumption is that developers will tend to be the only ones poking around in here (though I know that's not explicitly true).

Anyway, enough talk of bike-shedding. Slight smile I'm happy to adjust names if people get confused or something makes more sense.

I'll look into the getting the posts re-pinned. I suspect they were set to expire after a certain duration because we haven't intentionally unpinned anything.

  • I'll look into the getting the posts re-pinned.

Maybe a sticky about the wiki with the content of the expired stuff in the wiki?

I can't count the times I've had to post a link to the New Developer FAQ for new users, as an example..

  • judged by the (non related) topics people sometimes post here I'm sure most of them come from a search engine and not from inside the Connect IQ forum, but it's really the same question whether we need to repeat the "Connect IQ" when it's up there as parent thread... I guess we'll see after a few weeks

  • I can't count the times I've had to post a link to the New Developer FAQ for new users, as an example..

Yeah man it's crazy how ppl just consistently refuse to read stuff, huh

  • there's more in the New Developer FAQ other than app settings which is what the poster linked to.  Maybe you should check it out!
