Should the app store tell you when a new version is available?

I notice that I am not informed when I release a new version of my app. I have to remove it from the device and put it back on to get it to update. Is this the default, or perhaps it takes a little while to register?
in My experience, only way to know is 1) thru Garmin express 2) thru Mobile garmin connect, go to the apps, and the specific apps and view the status, and then it will tell you, (update) or view in store etc..
I wasn't very clear in my first question. I was using Garmin express, it did not tell me there was a new version, it did not sync to the new version. I notice I was using GE v3.2.29, have updated to v4.0.19, maybe that will help?
Sharkbait: you need to enable the info about new versions. It is in Express app (4.x.x.x) in "Tools", choose the middle tab and enable "Automatic app update". After it, Express will show the new versions as an available sw updates.
