Why Garmin Connect IQ ?

Can anyone explain why Garmin has released Garmin Connect IQ instead of including its functionality in the existing Garmin Connect Mobile?

We now have three routes for sourcing watch apps, and I thought two was confusing enough for the non-technical user.

Also, you still need the Connect app to be open when doing network communication. It would be cool if the new ConnectIQ app can also provide tethering so you don't need to keep the Connect app open (especially on iOS)

I imagine at some point, the Connect IQ functionality will be removed from GCM.

I'm thinking the same. I also think it will be easier for the Garmin folks to get CIQ bugs fixed in the new app than in GCM.
