Possible update settings issue on Garmin Connect Mobile ios?

I've got 3 distinct reports yesterday that when editing settings from Garmin Connect Mobile the user is presented with a binary file when he tries to save the settings. (One of the reports is here: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/deve...08#post1457708 )

another report:
Peter
In the last two days if I attempt to change the Target Finish Time on the Race Pacer app, I am directed out of Connect on iOS to a web page. I make the setting change and then I am presented with a binary file to download. App is up to date - is it possible that this came in with the most recent update?
another report of another app (hi vis pacer)
Having real difficulty getting this app set up. All installed okay however if I try to adjust the settings (distance, pace etc) as soon as I hit save I get the message 'Open outside Garmin Connect Mobile' When I select no nothing happens, when I select yes the settings screen opens in a browser window. I then make the same changes, hit save and I get a binary file to download?

I'm assuming it's a possible bug on the Garmin Connect Mobile (iOs version) side of things, as I don't have issues doing the send settings from my Android phone and the user that reported the issue was also able to update the settings through Garmin Express on his pc.

I did recently recompile both apps with the latest sdk (3.0.8) but beside adding support for the vivoactive 3 music lte I did no major changes to the apps

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
  • Is there a workaround using the desktop? I just got my Tactix Charlie today, and it's super disappointing to not be able to use it properly. I feel like returning it already, terrible tech support from such a good company.
  • You can install Garmin Express on a pc/mac and use that to change settings as a work around.

Yep this is a very poor show Garmin. I've tweeted and emailed and had "requests" for more info. Doesn't anyone actually test the basic functionality of the app before releasing it? Seven bloody days this bug is old now. Come on!

Guys. Hit Garmin up on Twitter and complain there. Complaints in public might actually result in action
  • AJRykala - as Coleman (he's with Garmin) said in post 27, the teams that need to be involved, ARE involved. Tweeting won't get this fixed any faster.

I have about 50 apps in the store, and trust me, I and other app developers have been dealing with this in a large scale.

In the meantime, you can always use Garmin Express to change app settings. That's what I've been recommending to my users until there is a fix.

  • Well, 10 days without any fix, this seem incredible to me from Garmin
I think it's time to release previous version, and then you will stop all complain. Do you know this is not very good for the futur and Suunto exist also ?
Using Garmin Express is not a good answer, everyone know this, we could wait a little more from Garmin
As someone has said, when I have such a bug in my app, I correct immediatly or I release the previous version, because I answer to everyone who is asking.
  • What' the work around with Garmin Express? At least on the mac version, there is no option to change face fields, and this feature, i.e., being able to see the data that's important to me, is why I got the watch.

I tried to roll back the Garmin Connect by jailbreaking my phone, and even earlier versions seem to have this issue, which is strange--it still asks to open the data outside of the app.

Furthermore, my widgets reset several times per day, dealbreaker number two.

It seems that social media is exactly where everyone should be posting--especially for military, premium equipment needs to work, otherwise, it's time for a brand change.
  • Here's a basic How To for changing App Settings from your phone or by using Garmin Express. Are you sure you're not looking at the Garmin Connect website from your mac? Garmin Express gets installed on your computer - it's also the way to load your own music on Music devices and update maps on devices with on-board maps. When it comes to installing firmware updates, it's also much faster than waiting for an update to come through your phone.

Unfortunately my Mac is a little heavy to carry when I'm out in the middle of nowhere :) And notwithstanding, this is now a week with a massive bug that should NEVER have passed simple QC testing...

You can change watch face settings on the Mac version of Garmin Connect - it's just not very intuitive. In the app, look for the three dots in a grey box next to the watchface/widget/datafield name
