This is a cosmetic “just my opinion” bug report, but I can’t believe the Garmin App Store has been around for 3+ years, and it’s still full of apps with distorted listing images. The store apparently takes whatever listing image you upload and displays it as a square, without cropping, which means that non square images will be squashed either horizontally or vertically. (This is obvious because when you save such an image from the store, it has the original, non distorted shape/dimensions).
This looks especially terrible when the listing image is a screenshot and/or image of a watch, since a circular watch becomes oval, unless care is taken to crop the image to perfectly square dimensions before uploading. This is obviously not happening 100% of the time.
Just my opinion but I think this creates a bad first impression when you search for apps and many of them have images like this. I think that the store should:
- Crop, not distort, non square listing images
- give devs a preview of what it will look like before submitting
Imagine if twitter or IG distorted your profile pic so your face became really wide or really thin....
E.g. search for “time” on the store and look at about half of the listing images....
And I truly hate to say this, but this is another example of an issue in the ecosystem that devs must manually work around, and which doesn’t seem to be highlighted. (I don’t think it says anywhere that your image will be distorted if it isn’t perfectly square, even if there are recommended dimensions somewhere. But the store should properly handle the situation where devs upload a non square image in any case, imo, since you’re not going to prevent ppl from uploading what they want, apparently).
