Is there any reason I cannot take my watch face code and dump it into an activity project, i.e. run my watch face as an application? that way i have access to menus and other cool stuff like sensors etc.
You lost quick access to the widgets, and drain the battery. I don't know, but maybe is timelimit or watchdog and back from app to the face in 'buttons' inactivity.

The seems to be a timeout. The same timeout as seem when you finish an activity (5 or 10 minutes).
The time out for watch-apps was a bug on the fenix 3, which has been fixed. I'm not sure if it's been released yet, so if it's not it will be in the next release. The vivoactive and FR920 shouldn't have an app timeout.
