Connect IQ Questions

Gents,

I have a couple of questions and may be someone can help me with with answer/link for them:

  • Can you please clarify the procedure of publishing apps/widgets to your app store? Should I pay some license fee to Garmin?
  • Is it possible to use the applications I've developed on my own physical device or it is only simulator usage?
  • Will it be possible to bind an application for a hardware button for a quick access? For example it will be cool to have a single button press for another glass of water done.

Thank you and looking forward for your reply.

There are no licensing requirements or fees to publish Connect IQ apps to the app store (assuming your app does no include any copyrighted or trademarked material). You may download the SDK, create an app, and then upload an app after creating a free account on https://apps.garmin.com.

Yes, you may use any apps your build on your own devices if they support Connect IQ. Currently, the Forerunner 920XT, Fenix 3, and vivoactive all support Connect IQ. Once it's released, the Epix will also have Connect IQ Support.

This is an interesting case. Connect IQ does not keep apps running in the background, so while it is possible to bind behaviors to key presses, it would require the supporting app to already be running. For your example, the best solution available right now would be to create a widget that you could quickly switch to, and then press a key to record an additional glass of water.
