Very serious issue with IQ limitations

I've posted about this already in the Fenix3 forums but I was told I'd better post about this here.

Theoretically, the IQ is not doing much but adding a screen design to functions used (calculus basically) by the internal instruments to provide data displays. The limitation of 2 IQ seems rather too strict compared to other contemporary watches such as the Ambit2 and 3. Now... we have got quite an impressive list for a watch that was released less than a month ago but we can only use 2 IQ. The problem arose today when I found out we can use at best 2 IQ and not 2 IQ per single activity.

What does this mean?

I tried the HR Graph in my Indoor Bike and Strength activities.
This means EACH is using 1 IQs (but it's the SAME IQ). Picture my surprise when I created the WALK activity, I added the HR Graph, then I tried to add Elevation Graph to it and I was notified 2/2 can't add more IQ unless I take down an IQ from somewhere else.

So, right now, out of all the list of IQ, I can use HR Graph and ELEV Graph... I already have problems with this limitation with only 2 activities, can you imagine when I have 5 different activities and more?

I really hope someone is reading this: the Ambit2 has hundreds if not thousands of Apps and you can select up to FIVE in the same activity. The Fenix3, which is almost 2 yrs younger and more powerful in all senses, can use at max 2 in ALL the activities??!? Only 2 in TOTAL??!!?!?!?

Did I do something wrong? Is it me or has anyone else found out there's something really bad going on here with IQ? 2 is already too little for one activity... 2 for ALL the activities is really useless and a pity. :(

I'm supposed to look at the elevation graph and at the instant slope while I climb, this makes 2 IQ. What am I supposed to do Edit or REMOVE the Indoor Bike which is using the HR Graph? It took me an hour to set the screens up properly!
This doesn't make sense... I hope I am wrong... really I hope somebody shows up here and says: You're wrong! :)

You can have two Connect IQ fields per activity. I just tested it to make sure. I have one activity with two CIQ fields, and another with two different CIQ fields.

    It doesn't work here.
Make no mistake I have it on XLS. Please check it with me, perhaps I missed something?

Indoor Bike: Screen 6 - Graph HR (1 IQ only)
Strength: Screen 2 - Graph HR (1 IQ only)

Walk: Screen 4 - Graph Elev (1 IQ only)

... and as you see the Fenix3 says I am at the limit.

If what you say is true (and I hope so!) I must have made a mistake... maybe I have another IQ in this activity that I can't see?

remove all fields from watch, add them back and try again. I believe there is a bug right now.
I have experienced twice already that despite I had only one 1iq remaining on 1 single activity it was telling me I got 2 already !

I was wondering if this has something to do with the widgets and watch face.
You see it's no big deal to remove activities awhole, as long as you keep them down on .xls like I do. :)

Gonna try but I still think 2 IQ x activity is too restrictive. IE you run marathons, you can have predictor and HR graph but not Elev Graph and instant slope? That sucks big time, major time and God knows what we'll have to step back from when there'll be hundreds of apps out there. The watch is still only 1 month old, let's hope they increase this limit!

Not possible to remove all activity profiles and rebuild them from scratch. The watch will not allow you to remove them all. I kept only the Strength Training, without IQs I still get 1/2 (so I can only put one).
The watch shows the olympic circles EMPTY (no name bc activity has been removed). No other option but to reset to factory settings (I suppose back to 3.0) ... IF I can find it.

Reverted back to factory settings and patched. I did notice the watch face, Black Hole, actually appears to belong to the IQ category. That is the 1/2 which solves the mystery... but only maybe. I see in the list of IQ on Garmin Express that Distance to Start (present in screen 4 just beneath the Elev Graph) also is an IQ app but this does NOT appear in the IQ, it appears in the ordinary map settings.

We need as many IQ inthe APPs as possible and if this problem isn't solved I don't think people are gonna use the watch faces.

In any case I repeat: the Black Hole widget appears as IQ and the IQ Distance to Start is not in the IQ list but it is an IQ.
Be advised, one of the predictors appears as a CODE and not as a NAME (I think it's the smart predictor but I am not sure).

    Glitches, please report!

    Some updates:

You were right Torstein, the way it is designed with just 2 IQ limits per activity is TRUE.
Despite the widgets/faces also appearing as IQ (but not in the proper sense, since they are excluded from the activity limitation of 2 per activity) the problem seems to have been the Distance to Start which is under all aspects an IQ which builds 1 out of 2. So the reason why I couldn't add more is because I was on 2/2 already BUT you simply can't check the IQ you already have set because that option doesn't let you go in when the limit is reached.

Example: If I do not know data screen X is an IQ, and I reach the limit, I have no way to know which IQ is to be removed. Thank God... solved, my bad... now In the .xls I am marking the IQ with a different color so I don't make the same mistake again.
Hopefully they'll bring the IQ limit to 5, which is more appropriate. For example, when Hiking you could use the graph elevation and the distance to start ... but that cuts out the GPS coverage IQ which is also very useful.

Let's hope they increase this limit.
  • @Z-74: The two field limit is in place right now primarily because of device memory constraints. Hopefully this won't cause you too much confusion, since I'd expect you to be familiar with the Connect IQ data fields you have installed and made active for your various activities. :) I don't know anything concrete, but I expect that this limit will increase in the future as hardware constraints loosen up.
