How to save battaery after 9.2 or 9.53 fw update?

Good day to all!

Normally Fenix 5x with my watch face consumed abt 10% of battery during 24hrs. After update to 9.2 it consumes 25-30% during same time.

May be I’ve missed some important info with CIQ 2.4.7 update and did not change code in correct way with present requirements?
Is there any possibilities to change code to return consumption back to normal 10%

Thanks in advance for your help and ideas

  • What's the version of CIQ on the watch (it's in "about")? Generally, this isn't CIQ related, but FW related. I've seen cases where just rebooting the watch brings things back to normal. On the f5x, you do that by pressing the light button for 15-20 seconds (until the watch turns itself off) and then back on..
  • Fenix 5x, fw 9.53 now, the problem appeared at 9.2 fn 9.53 - remained. CIQ 2.4.7 on device.

I’ve read about re-boot, some people advising to switch to native Garmin’s wf before. All done. It's looks better. For now, it's hard to say exactly if all loses disappeared, got some activities today.

    Thanks for your reply.
Just wanted to ensure, that did not miss something important with last SDK update (in a first message same, mean SDK instead CIQ).
  • Dmytryi,

There are no changes on the SDK side of things that should have a direct effect on battery life.

    Thanks,

    Thanks a lot for reply.
As I understood from other part of forum, Garmin working on it, but not yet clear with the reason..
  • [h=4]9.71b for f5x has some changes
Changes made from version 9.53 to 9.71:[/h]
    • Added support for Connect IQ SDK v3.0.
    • Improved a case in v9.53 that could have caused battery drain for the Fenix 5X.

    I tried 9.71…
For me it was no any changes of battery lifetime, same as 9.2 or 9.53.

However, when I’ve downgraded fw to 9.2 and made those changes in watch face. All become in order.
I think, that battery life was fixed by hard reset during downgrading. And device response (it was huge delay in 5-6 seconds) while leaving from / coming back to watch face by rearranging code of wf.

So, now i have fw 9.2, my wf and all working good as at fw 8.0.
  • my f5 is not tracking elevation changes correctly during gps activity, upto 50% less than it should be.

can i roll back to 6.1 as all was fine and that is what came on the device
  • After all I found that at 9.2 even with all trying not all ok… Finally, I’ve downgraded my 5x to 8.0. Already 2 days all perfect. Even GPS track during run showing much better result.

If you want to downgrade your fw, found and download first beta fw after that official you want to have (in my case it was 8.54 beta). Inside in folder “System_Backdate_v” you will found backup file (GUPDATE.gcd). So, all you need – copy this file into your device in “Garmin” folder. Make safe-disconnect your device from computer and follow the instructions on device.
In my case, with fw 8.0 GPS was 4.3, but with 9.2 it was updated also to 9.4 (and gave worse results) so, I’ve downgrade it also (in same beta folder from “GPS_v430”, just copy file “GUPDATE.GCD” into device to folder “GARMIN\REMOTESW”). Check changes for your device for downgrade.

It is important: first of all, you have to understand, that after downgrade your device become to conditions as new one. Means all your data, from device, not from Connect IQ, will be lost.

Next. During initial settings, device will ask you to synchronize with your cell phone, don’t do it, choose later. After all initial settings will be passed, first of all go to device settings and switch of Auto-update. Other way it will automatically be updated to 9.2. Same for Wi-Fi if you use it.
Also, if you have on your PS Garmin Express – remove it. All you need you can easily do with Connect IQ mobile. Because, when you connect your device to PS, even if Garmin Express is not running, it will load to your device new update (means 9.2) and do not care that auto update is off. If it does load you will have only 2 options: install that “great” update now or during night time… Of course, you can clear it manually from your device, but you have to now exactly what you removing. IMHO better to remove Garmin Express.

So that exact what I done, and now finally completely happy with my 5x.
