No widgets working on Edge 820 APAC 8.80

I have an APAC Edge 820 with firmware 8.80, and can not get any widget to work. There is nothing in the logs, and nothing appears in the UI. What am I missing?

* I have downloaded several widgets from the store, using both Garmin Connect, and Garmin Express to install them, and they do not appear
* I have sideloaded my own Widgets which work fine on an Edge 520 with latest firmware, but they do not appear on the 820
* I have sideloaded my own DataFields and they work fine, on both the 520 and 820.

Anyone have any ideas? Is 8.80 completely broken?
  • How are you trying to access the widgets? Have you been able to access them before on your Edge 820? Are you able to access widgets downloaded from the store? Do you know what version of Connect IQ each device is running?

There are several possibilities as to what is causing this for you. I've been trying to reproduce this, but I'm running into some road blocks and haven't been able to. Let me know and I'll continue to try and figure it out as well.

    Thanks,

  • 40ft, do you know how to access the widgets on the edge touch screen devices? It is very different than the Edge 520 device which only has buttons. This blog post is the only written reference I have seen about how to access the widgets.

Aaaaarrgggh....no, I did not know how to access the Widgets on the 820!!!! Thank you! I thought it might be the same as my 520 where the widget shows up at the bottom of the status screen, but no.

There is ZERO visual indication that you can swipe left/right on the status screen. WTF?. You would think that a widget might at least be mentioned in the screen that pops up when you push the prominent IQ button.

There is also no mention of how to access widgets in any of the 820 manual PDFs I searched through online.

    Thanks again.
  • No problem, it took me a while to figure it out when I got my Edge 1000 also. My search ended up taking me to this developer blog post. I too agree that it is the best kept secret on the touch screen edge devices.
