  • I can provide almost all the fonts Garmin ever made in suitable format. My tool can extract fonts in binary form, then convert to raster and produce suitable format for CIQ apps. The question to the CIQ team - is it legal? Many of these fonts have Cyrillic part, so cp1251/cp1252 are covered at least.
  • peterdedecker I noticed that you are referencing fonts from the garmin 935 on the project page. Like a1234.garmin asks - is it legal? Unless the fonts used by Garmin itself is free for all to use and no need for license etc, developers can't really use them and distribute the app on Garmin's app store. for eg, I like Steelfish font on the Fenix 3 series, but i can't use them on a Vivoactive for example due to licensing. It is OK to use steelfish within Fenix 3 (as it's a native font) but not legal to be used in another watch.

note : steelfish is not a free font. Robota on the other hand is. Hence one can use Robota in any watch.
  • I nor the Garmin team will be able to give you one YES or NO answer to that question. You should evaluate it on a case by case basis.
It's Roboto btw, not Robota, wich is indeed a free font. I'm not an expert, but Steelfish looks like a free font to me ( https://www.wfonts.com/font/steelfish ).

Steelfish is not free to embed. ref:

"These fonts include a license that allows free commercial use: sometimes referred to as a desktop license. This allows you to install the fonts on a computer and use them to create posters, web graphics, game graphics, t-shirts, videos, signs, logos and more. Read the license agreement for details.

If you'd like to embed these fonts in an app, ebook, on the web or anything that's not covered by the desktop license agreement, visit the link below. You'll find distributors who offer different types of licenses or you can contact me for help."
  • I've added a subset of the 'Roboto' font styles for demonstration and also to motivate to create and share better fonts.

Roboto is a terrible font which mixed different style elements and it is also not easy to read on the Forerunner. I've chosen this font type (and not steelfish) because I thought there can't be any license problem - please give us a clue if this is wrong. Anyhow these two starters should be replaced by good looking and more readable fonts as soon as possible.
