Developing for Vivosport?

Hi, I have just acquired a vivosport. I have also run some of the connectiq samples in eclipse. This is my first post. Has anyone developed for the vivosport? It is not in the list of devices in connetiq or in the Garmin store. When connected to my mac it does not have an APPS folder. Is this different to other devices where .prg files should go? In eclipse I chose the vivoactive HR as a device to develop for as this was the latest available. Should widgets, etc for the vivoactive HR work on the vivosport? Many thanks, Tom
  • Vivosport has no Connect IQ capability. Any attempts at running custom apps on this model are futile.
  • Hi. Thanks tmk2 for such a quick response. Maybe only the watch-like devices that can be developed for. Would be ideal to be able to customise the vivosport as it is a very nice device with lots of functionality!

This is not a general rule. The list of Connect IQ capable devices can be found here:
    https://developer.garmin.com/connect-iq/compatible-devices/
As you can see this includes some bike computers as well as at least one hand-held hiking device. Some less advanced watches, like for example the FR30/35, are not included.
  • Thanks again tmk2. Looking at the android connectiq sdk, I ran the golf sample(disc-golf-android) in android studio and ported to my phone. It did not recognise the vivosport, so it appears the android sdk works only with comparable devices also based on connectiq. So it may not be possible to develop an android app to read data from the vivosport similarly to how the garmin connect app does? I tried to load/import a .fit file from the vivosport to the garmin connect website but it did not allow this. Regards, Tom
  • Yes, the Android app is a companion app to the CIQ app on a device. There's no way to use the Android SDK from the vivosport, as the vivosport doesn't support CIQ.

The only vivo series watches with CIQ are the vivoactices (original, va-hr and va3)

I am interested in adding an accident detection

I want to add "accident detection" to my vivosport. It basically does everything I'd want in a watch (especially for the size and weight), just wish it had a way of detecting if I have been in a crash (bike or car) or serious fall. Since it has an accelerometer it should be capable of detecting an accident and sending push notifications to contacts.

  • That would have to be done in the firmware.  It doesn't support CIQ.

Try suggesting it in the vivosport forum or here: www.garmin.com/.../
