Connect IQ data fields not shown in GC when uploaded from Fenix 5

I use the Stryd running power data field and sometime last July it just stopped showing up in Garmin Connect. On July 10 it was there when I uploaded an activity:

But, when I ran again on July 13 it was missing in the uploaded file (well, at least the presentation on GC):

Apparently neither it nor any other Connect IQ data field has shown up for me on Garmin Connect since then! The data fields, though, work fine on the watch. I can see power just fine. And, the data shows up in Training Peaks and if I look at the fit file using Golden Cheetah.

In an effort to debug this problem, today I went out on a run with my Fenix 5 and my older 920XT, both with the latest firmware installed and both running the same Stryd Running power data field and the Moxy 1st sensor data field. While running, data from both my Stryd and my Moxy showed up on both watches just fine, but when I uploaded them to GC only 920XT shows the Connect IQ data fields:

Fenix 5: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2478375543
920XT: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2478363738

At this point, I'm at a complete loss with how to get the Connect IQ data fields to show up when I upload from my fenix 5. I've tried resetting the fenix 5 to factory defaults and that changes nothing. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

If you go into the app settings for the data fields, is there an option to enable writing the data out to a fit file? I have not used the stryd fields, but I have used similar ones that include an option to enable/disable writing out to the fit file. See the attached image for what some of them look like. If there is no option for disabling writing out the data or if the writing out is already enabled, you could look at the contents of the fit file to see if the data is actually included. If you don't want to do this using the FIT SDK, you could post the files here and someone on the forums might take a look.

If the data is included in the Fenix 5 fit files, then that means the issue is probably on the GCM or GC end.
  • It looks like you're referring to the Garmin power Connect IQ data field. That does have a checkbox for writing to the file or not but I'm not currently using it. I have, however, tried it out and it didn't show up either. Neither the Stryd or the Moxy data fields have that option. They always write to the file. See attached photos for those options and the iPhone version of the Garmin Combo Running power data field (which I have tried also without success).community.garmin.com/.../1305332.png

And by "not ... using it" I mean I'm not using that data field. When I tried using that data field, though, I did have that box checked. I'll try it again with that and the Stryd field (since I can only use 2 at a time) and see if that does anything. Thanks.

  • I think Garmin has some problems with the database, maybe together with the Device ID?
I have exactly the same problem, on my 735XT both Connect IQ apps "OneRunData" and "JMG-DTF Running VO2 Max" are displayed in Garmin Connect.
Fenix 5 wifi: with same apps and settings, Garmin Connect does not display the data fields - ignores the data.

    Workaround:
Load the current fit from the folder /Garmin/ACTIVITY/ to https://www.fitfiletools.com and change it to Device Garmin Fenix 3 HR with the Device Changer, then import it into Garmin Connect and everything will be displayed!

So it's not the recording, but some filter in the database. It really gets frustrating for such a high-priced high-end watch!

I've written to support, but they can't handle it, ask ignorant questions. Tomorrow I'll call the support....community.garmin.com/.../1308613.png
