I think it would make sense to bring the watch out of sleep mode when the backlight button is pressed.
When turning on the backlight when the watch face is active, the user makes a conscious decision to look at the watch, and it would be logical to have seconds and other high power stuff visible without having to try to trigger onExitSleep by hand movements.
