Garmin Watch connection with a BLE device

Hello,

I just started programming for the connectIQ platform using the monkeyC language and I have some questions regarding its connectivity.

I would like to connect my Garmin Forerunner 935 to an additional bluetooth device, which is not a phone, in order to use its sensors. My additional device runs Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), same technology found in my Garmin Forerunner 935.

I read all the provided documentation by Garmin and researched a bit on internet and I couldn't find a similar project. Following this I started wondering if it's possible to create a communication between a garmin watch and another device using the bluetooth (BLE more precisely) channel.

Thank you for your time and help! If there is a way to build this connection please let me know and maybe point me to the suitable resources ;).

Kind regards,
  • About all you can do is build a companion app for the phone and have it talk to the other BLE devices.

With Ant sensors you can talk to those from a CIQ app.
  • I'm guessing in that case it's paired as a standard sensor (by the system), so not accessed by CIQ directly with BLE. Newer watches (f5, 935, va3) allow sensors that are BLE or ANT to be paired at the system level. And the system knows how to work with the Stryd.
