Gamin connect web site "You need to have a compatible device" error

In the ttps://apps.garmin.com/ garmin connect store, and login, there is the option to "download" apps. When I pick an app which is compatible with my watch (fenix 3 HR), it says "You need to have a compatible device in your account before sending content to it." It then gives a link to the garmin connect mobile app which is useless advice as I already have this installed and have been using it for many months with no issues.

so:
1) I do have a compatible device
2) I am logged in
3) I do have garmin connect app installed, connected, synced and fully working on my iphone.
4) I cant install apps through gamin connect as it says I don't have a compatible device when I do.

Also, I notice there is a dashboard: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/
This is also broken - there is no data in it. Again, it just gives a link to the garmin connect app which I already have installed, and doesnt give any help as to what to do to connect the two.

Any ideas?
  • not sure if this is also the case for this issue as usually it's the garmin connect app that's the issue and not the website, but the fix might be similar in nature, try these options one by one in this order:
    1/ turn off your device and turn it back on
    2/ unpair your watch and pair it with your mobile phone again
    3/ factory reset the device (make sure to sync your data first as all your data will be wiped) and pair with your mobile again

    To install apps you have to do this via Garmin Connect Mobile or Garmin Express (not via the Garmin Connect website)

  • Maybe reaching here, but I've see issues where someone has accidentally set up two accounts, so the one you are signing into is not the account that the device is actually on. That would make sense to me if your dashboard is completely empty. All Garmin web pages use a single sign on, so if you sing in on Garmin.com, then you are signed into the forums, the app store, Connect, etc. Is it possible that you have signed into a different account on another site? That could be causing a mismatch somewhere on our servers. It doesn't appear that Connect is having any wide spread issues.

    It is possible to install apps via the website from any device or browser when you are logged in. After you click the download button, you'll be asked to choose the target device. But... the application will be effectively sent to your device the next time you sync - and indeed this will ultimately happen through Garmin Connect Mobile or Garmin Express.
