Suggestion: change app settings via companion app (Android/iOS SDK)

Would it be too complicated to allow companion apps (Android/iOS) to change the app settings of a certain app?

I think that could be a good way to let them "communicate" with data fields and watch faces.

Is it possible for iOS or Android companion apps to actually communicate with an CIQ Datafield to update the settings? Something similar to the ConnectIQ app that Garmin released on the App Store.

I'm just dipping my toe into it and suddenly I read that only device apps / widgets has access to the communications module/permission.

Actually, you can do comm in a WF or DF, but it must be done in a background service.

So.. basically one cannot communicate with a datafield to change any settings via a companion app?

My goal is to create an app to offset the properties.xml which tends to get bloated due to the many repetition.

You need to use GCM or the Connect IQ app if you want to change things from your phone.
