Prevent launcher icon from loading

Hi, if I change to my widget the launcher icon is shown for a short time. Personally I find this annoying. Is there a way to prevent the launcher icon from loading?
  • You can't control that. It's done by the firmware. And the behavior of this with widgets varies by device. You don't see it on a fr 23x for example.

It was originally done so a user could see what CIQ widget they were on without fully starting the vm and the widget.
  • Is it possible to control the size of this image?
  • You can use an image size up to the maximum size supported for the device being targeted. If you use an image that is too big, you should get a warning. If you want to see the maximum values allowed, you can see them in bin/devices.xml.

    Travis
  • you can't really prevent it from showing, but you could replace your load image by an image that just has a transparent layer, you could even make it just 1pixel by 1 pixel, it'll be automatically upscaled to the right size and you'll have as effect to shortly see a blank screen instead of your loading image.

Of course tricking the system this way, also has as a side-effect that your widget no longer has a visible icon in the widget configuration list...
  • Hm, I already thought in a similar direction. What, if we are using an image which consists of transparent background and black foreground? It is probably invisible on the widget pages (since those are initially black) but are visible on the configuration page (since the background is white).
  • I don't mind the loading icon. However, I would agree that the widget loading experience does need a bit of love. Anyone notice that widget names are not centered when loading?
  • Not until today. And now it's going to bug me

Yes, not sure if it was before the firmware version 4, but at least after updating to this release, I don't like widgets anymore :(

BTW - here's an example (Forerunner 935 only) which I wrote for my next holiday trip to west cornwall - the widget is able to display low and high tides for different locations for the time period of june and july.
