CIQ - Tacx Neo SmartTrainer - activity.info.currentPower always null !!!

Hi,

I am using a Tacx Neo SmartTrainer and my Edge 1000 with a CIQ datafield displaying power data.

This datafield is working correctly on the road with a Powermeter (Vector) but when I try to use it with my SmartTrainer power data is always null !

Normal Edge Power value field is correct but it seems that activity.info.currentPower is not populated correctly...

For example, my "Power - Time in Training Zones" datafield is not working when I use my Tacx Neo SmartTrainer:

Any help would be appreciated.

Patrick
  • I'm checking into this for you--I'm not really familiar with the Tacx or the data it provides, but I know that it provides power data so I'd expect it to function with your data field. It's not really clear to me that this is a Connect IQ bug, so I'm working with our fitness team to find out what I can about this. I believe we have someone that uses a Tacx Neo, so we're going to test with your app and see if we have the same result.
  • Thanks Brandon.

I really think that it is a CIQ bug because Power value is available on Edge regular field but not "pushed" to CIQ activity info !

I am not sure that it is 100% related to Tacx Neo specific model... But I think that it is a general SmartTrainer problem...

    Let me know...

  • I was able to get this tested (the tester did not have an Edge 1000 available), and here's what was found:

Tested the Edge 820 SW 7.00 with Tacx Neo and Tacx Training App (in ergo mode) on iPad connected in ANT+ and latest version of the datafield (https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/80380729-6ef6-4446-b588-c443ee53227f dated 28/04/2017):

    - Vector 2 : data field shows correct value (verified against FR935);
    - Neo connected in FE-C (so giving to the 820 all data... cad, power, speed); data field shows latest value when Vector2 was "disconnected", so test FAILED
    - Neo connected as a "separate" sensors in ANT+ > cad/speed and power; data field shows correct power value in real time

The data field failed to display power value ONLY when in FE-C mode.

Is this consistent with your experience? I plan to file a ticket based on these findings to determine whether this is working by design, but I want to make sure this fits what you're seeing, too.
  • This is exactly what I observe:

    1) If Neo is only connected to Egde as FE-C (1 sensor) no data is provided

    2) If Neo is connected as FE-C + Speed/Cadence Sensor + Power Sensor (3 NEO sensors connected to the Edge) data is available

It works in configuration 2) but it is not obvious to "understand" that you have to connect the NEO with 3 sensors to the Edge !

aha...the same is happening on my EDGE820 FW7.00
use the edge820 only with Tacx Neo connected as trainer(FE-C power/speed/cadence)

    IQ datafields :
    ">EDGE 6">EDGE 6 Updated: July 20, 2016 Version: 1.20
    ">Charts">Charts Updated: July 29, 2016 Version: 0.30-e81

I'll activate the three streams for sure...
  • We were able to reproduce this in-house and have addressed the bug, so there will be a fix out for this in future releases. Keep in mind that the fix has to first go into the Connect IQ VM and then must be integrated into each product, so it may take some time for the fix to propagate out to the devices. :)
  • By the way. Same issue with Bkool Smart Pro.

    No data provided via "Activity.info.currentPower".
Internal field for power shows the correct value.

    Werner-H ,

I've reached out to find out some more information on this one. It seems as though it should be working the same, but I'm not sure if that trainer is using the same profile as the other.

    Thanks,
    -Coleman
  • I have Tacx Neo and it works ok.

    No data provided via "Activity.info.currentPower".
Internal field for power shows the correct value.

This expressly points that power data are received but only Activity.info has wrong value (null). I observe very similar behavior when Varia Radar is connected to the Fenix5X.

    Peter.

  • There is a difference depending on the connection.
If the Bkool Smart Pro is paired via BLE as a "power sensor" my app shows power data. The activity.info then has the right value.
Only if the Bkool Smart Pro is paired via ANT+ as an "indoor trainer" my app shows no power data. The activity.info is always null. Then switching from my app to the page with garmin standard datafields shows that the trainer sends power data.
