Fonts did change again on Fenix 5

Hi,

Since the Fonts did change again from Fenix 3 to Fenix 5 I tried to create my own fonts which shall match to the Fenix 3 fonts. The fenix 3 text font is Roboto bold, though I downloaded Roboto bold and created a font for the Fenix 5 with the bitmap font generator with font size 22. Nevertheless the letter of this newly created font seems to be much wider than on the Fenix 3. Even if I create smaller Roboto fonts (e. g. 20) its much wider.

Do I have to use another font to download which matches exactly the width of the Fenix 3 Roboto letters?

OK, I got that running. The font which match the Fenix 3 font is not Roboto but Roboto condensed. Unfortunately this is an error in Garmin's documentation.

Do you really want your app to look different from all of the other apps on the fenix5? It seems that the best solution is to use the native font and use device-specific placement of the UI elements.

I agree with Travis. You want to app to look like the other things on the f5 and not use f3 fonts. This might mean changes to your screen layout, etc. There is a case I can see where something like where XTINY is larger than you want, but I'd then do something like my own XXTINY custom font, that is the same as the native f5 fonts but smaller.

Hi Travis, Hi Jim,

The text fonts do not differ really, but are only stated wrong on Garmin's doc. They differ just in size. And I created just a smaller font like Jim mentioned.

The number font differs tremendously and if you want to transfer an existing layout from another watch you maybe have to create one.

For new apps I agree with you, we should use the built in fonts.
