With regard to the comments about garmin not wanting 3rd party apps to input bad data into connect. Its the users responsibility to input lots of metrics, age, height, gender, that allow the connect metrics…
Here's a suggestion: just get rid of Connect IQ. The idea that you (Garmin) would enable end users to subscribe/purchase 3rd party applications, get them up and running (per @AlphaMonkeyC I've purchased…
Garmin must be breaking Competition law by not giving the 3rd party developer access to the distance field.
your bizarre perspective seems to actually be in the minority actually - you are in the minority. Your petty and arrogant insults speak to your naiveté in the 'real world' <smile> It appears your technical knowledge is even smaller?
I am not unhappy, my Fenix 5x is a fantastic and rugged watch. But like a self driving car that is built like a tank.....when the software sucks and it crashes and kills folks - intelligent and smart folks usually are called to action and remediation or change. I am not unhappy as you quip, just disappointed. (one of your many errors.
My 'complaint' as with all the rest here is perfectly valid. The only thing wrong is it falls on deaf (Garmin) and dumb (yours?) ears. Garmin just cowardly remains silent or doesn't give a crap OR they don't have a clue. (you?)
The real world you speak of and I have been highly successful in, would say that world class customer service and satisfaction is for every person that you know of that complains or is disappointed there are 50 to 100 that also are but you don't hear from OR your never hear from them again and they go to the competition. Many see folks trolling the forums acting like experts or dribbling sanctimonious verbiage denigrating or challenging or just attempting to insult folks who are expressing their well founded opinions or disappointments?
Dumbed down... "we see you" Flowstate and understand you for who you are. <wink> Have a good weekend!

I'm a software developer in my day job and I've developed several well-reviewed apps for Connect IQ (although they're admittedly niche and I personally don't think they're anything special). I still get requests to update my apps for newer devices, but to be honest, I'm kind of tired of the CIQ ecosystem.
I've done all kinds of software development, from Linux kernel development in embedded systems to modern web apps.

I already said that I don't think your complaint is invalid. Just that I don't think this is the most important problem that Garmin has, and that unfortunately, I don't think they're likely to change their minds because of your comments.
I also said that I actually agree with you in many ways, but you keep missing that part. I have lots of complaints about Garmin myself, but for me personally, this is not near the top of the list. And from my personal experience, most Garmin users don't care about Connect IQ.
I also don't care how successful you are in the real world lol. I'm not here to get in a pissing match. My point about the real world is that the opinions of people in this forum (including me) probably don't reflect the majority of Garmin users.
I am not unhappy
It sounds like you're unhappy. You said that we are "VICTIMS" and that your next watch will not be a Garmin. You also said that Garmin is "cowardly". You also seem to be ranting (in a self-important, belligerent and slightly unhinged manner), which tbh is the reason I am laughing at you (and not anyone else in this thread). I get it tho - I tend to rant when I'm unhappy with Garmin, too. But do you actually think that saying "shame on you" and calling Garmin "cowardly" will convince them to change their minds? That's the part that's hilarious to me. It's like you think your personal opinion of Garmin matters to them and that you can get what you want by hurling insults.
I'm not trolling or acting like an expert, just providing my own point of view. I know lots of runners who use Garmins and none of them care about Connect IQ. Simple as. This includes people who rock 10 year old watches as well people who just bought a new Garmin. It includes 5 hour marathoners and it includes 2:30 marathoners.
I'm a nobody but let's be honest, so are you. I'm speaking in terms of our importance to Garmin as individual customers.
doesn't give a crap
This is the explanation right here. Once you realize that no corporation cares about you, including Garmin, Polar, Suunto, Apple, Google, etc, maybe you'll be at peace.
Speaking of bizarreness and being in the minority, you don't have to type <smile> and <wink>, there are emoticons ( :) and ;) ) and emojis (,
) for that. I don't see anyone else posting like that, nor do I see anyone else attempting to insult or shame Garmin into giving them what they want. I'm not even taking a stand on the OP either way, I just think your comments are hilarious. Like how you previously said you don't "care a hoot" about other watches like Apple, but now you're saying you're going to go where the APPS are and your next watch won't be a Garmin. Looks like your only choices are Apple or Wear OS. Make up your mind, though.
My point about the real world is that the opinions of people in this forum (including me) probably don't reflect the majority of Garmin users.
For example, I love fbbbrown's Dozen Run app. I've used it for years and recommended it to friends who run. Some of them installed it, but the vast majority don't care.
That's just the reality of things. It probably doesn't help that Garmin watches support 6 to 8 data fields per page natively now, so there's fewer reasons to use "single run data fields" today than there were in the past.
But hey, just for you, I pressed the like button on this post. I don't think Garmin will change anything tho, sorry to say.
Reposting this for visibility:
For anyone who wants to see this change, I would suggest submitting an idea here:
I wish Garmin would maintain a public idea / feature request page like some other companies which allows for sharing and voting. I just submitted an idea for that haha but I doubt Garmin will ever implement it :/.
Obviously these forums are not quite the same thing. The closest thing here is the Connect IQ bug reports section, but that only pertains directly to Connect IQ. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to open a Connect IQ bug report so others could vote for it:
I went ahead and opened a bug report / feature request for this:
Vote for it if you want to see it fixed.
I agree. I don't run but the same is true for his open swim / swim+ app.
You are arrogant but I am warming up to your enthusiasm on the topic.
<smile> because it works on all platforms and its different. Marketing 101.

I'm arrogant? Go back and read all your own comments in this thread, where you insult Garmin, its employees and anyone who disagrees with you or tries to figure out why Garmin may have made this decision. If I'm responding arrogantly to you (and only you), there's a reason for that. You seem to think that Garmin's product development strategy should revolve around you (or people like you) and that insulting them will achieve the results you want. The tone of your comments goes way past a simple feature request, bug report or even normal user complaint.
Case in point:
Pitiful NEVER a Reply from Garmin, just excuses. They could easily QC and certify the code since their crappy inhouse code bangers write all kinds of lame apps that don't provide much value
I actually kinda get it because I've been frustrated with Garmin many times in the past, although I tried to avoid insulting their employees like that. I'd guess that most people there are passionate about their jobs (same as any company), but in Garmin's case, I think they've had systemic problems (like not having a great reputation for being good at software or user experience.)
I just find it funny that you think this one issue will make or break Garmin. If garmin added nativeNum functionality tomorrow, 99.999% of users would not even notice.
Of course they could "easily" do it, but since you've been in the industry for 35 years, you should know:
- even a "5 minute fix" takes a lot longer than five minutes
- companies don't typically make random changes for no reason, or simply because people complained
Even cowboy coders know that there's certain things they can't randomly change just because they think it will improve the user experience.
Plus there's the obvious fact that they don't want to do it.
Just admit that this is a feature that you and the people in this thread want, not something of vital importance to Garmin's future. After all, it's been 6 years since it was requested, and Garmin is still here. I've never heard anything about nativeNum from runners IRL, either. I can't stress this enough, but the vast majority of people I run with don't care about Connect IQ apps.
<smile> because it works on all platforms and its different. Marketing 101.
It might not have the effect that you're hoping for. SAME with the random CAPS.
I was responding to the tone and verbiage in your previous emails. Fairly condescending with a sprinkle of superior intellect.
You should reread your own stuff. < insert smiley face because there is no button or short cut on my android phone> do you recall your quips and remedial instructions on my usage?? ;-)
