I was told to post my question to this forum. I'm sure it has been asked before, but I'd like to know what is the current state of allowing 3rd party developers access to continually display seconds (more than ~8 seconds). I know Garmin is able to do this with their default faces. I was just wondering if any thoughts are being considered for developers. Thanks in advance.
It's all about the battery. Native watchfaces run in their own low power processor and can display seconds. CIQ watchfaces run in the main processor, and only update every minute, except for about 10 seconds after a wrist turn.
Today you can do something as a widget or watch-app if you want to see seconds all the time, but not in a watchface.
Sure. I get that. I totally understand. It would be nice to have the option though at least. I would be happy if they would at least up the time seconds were displayed to 15 seconds. The reason is I've noticed that on faces that do display seconds, sometimes the seconds display can pause or stall just enough not to give a full 8-10 seconds.
I really doubt you'll see a change like that. Like I said, it's all about the battery, and watchfaces are quite limited in what they can do as a result. No user input, no sounds/vibrations, no Comm, etc, etc, etc.
If it were to be done, the FW might be the place it needs to change - to vary the time CIQ watchfaces drop out of Low Power Mode. Maybe you can suggest it to the platform groups.
