Is there a way to create a backup of the watch's firmware before starting developing?

I'd like to bullet proof my watch so that whatever happens during development, I'll be able to restore it and keep using it. Sort of like "I broke my virtual machine, I can restore it and keep working on it".

Basically, these watches cost a lot of money, and the idea of breaking on during developing is really unsettling. Is there a way to backup the entire firmware and watch software so that, in case of problems, I can restore it 100%?

Thanks.
  • You could perhaps backup the file system on the watch's USB drive when connected to computer.

But you shouldn't be worried about that.

Side loading apps cannot mess up your watch.
In 2 years this has never happened to me.
  • Like Hermo, I've been doing this for 2 years, and something like you've seen has never happened to me. Worst case was in some early CIQ days where the watch might crash and you get your step count reset, but that's about it.

It sounds to me that there is something wrong with your watch itself. Now that the weekend is over, I'd call Garmin Support. Emailing them can take more time, so call.

I really hope that's the case, I'll send it back today. I'll call them anyway just out of curiosity, but it's really weird that after deploying the app and rebooting the watch, it broke down... Given what you are telling me, it was probably a faulty watch.
