Watch locked after trying to develop app

Hi guys, any of you ever had your watches lock (blank screen, HRM on, no reset/reboot/shutdown, etc) after trying to deploy an app through eclipse?
I have no idea how to fix this, and the issue is on a Fenix Chronos...

any tips?
  • Sounds like your watchface crashed. Normally a CIQ watchface should not crash the watch itself - just the watchface crashes, but can leave the watch in kind of an odd state.

Connect your watch to a PC and look to see if there is a file called "CIQ_LOG.TXT in \garmin\apps\logs. That will give you some details with a CIQ crash (more details if you don't "build for device" with "build for release" checked, as the debug symbols are included for non-release).

If there's nothing there, things get a bit trickier to figure out, so look there first.

Thanks for the input man! When I plug it into the computer, the device is not recognized anymore. Any attempts to shut it down by holding the LIGHT button also failed. The damn thing is just stuck.

Which brings me to a question I should not be asking: who the hell doesn't put a hardware override to shut a 1.500$ gadget off in cases like this? If the buttons work only when the OS is working, then I'm totally screwed...

    broken watch

When I plug it in via USB, the device is no longer recognize by the computer (ie, I cannot access the device's filesystem). When I try to shut it down by holding the LIGHT button, it fails, nothing happens.

What's going on here? Is it possible they didn't put a hardware override to turn a 1.500$ gadget off???

EDIT: I'm willing to do anything to make it work, the problem is there's no information around! I would flush a new firmware, factory reset, all I want is to be able to restore the functionality of this high end device. I absolutely DO NOT want to be forced to send it back otherwise I'll just get my money back and be done with it.

Is there a way to force via a computer the firmware? Active some maintenance mode? Something similar to a bios, maybe?

EDIT 2: I had uninstalled my watchface and had restored the original one downloaded from ConnectIQ. The watch froze after that out of the blue.
  • That sounds like there's something odd with the watch itself. I'd contact Garmin Support, as they can help with this.

I just contacted them. What pisses me off though is that I'm pretty sure they'll just say "send the watch back to us", and I hate that. It's common sense, there has to be a way to turn it off...
  • There probably is a full reset that be done by using a couple buttons and they can help.

I've been trying button combinations, no success. I really hope there is another way...
  • Did you follow the instructions in your manual to force a device reset?

Yes, everyone says to do that, so I did it. I kept it pressed for almost two minutes, no change: HR monitor stays on, screen stays blank.

One question: is it possible that unplugging the watch without using the windows "eject" function may have caused a software crash like this?
  • Anything is possible. Have you waited until the battery drains completely? Once it powers down, it should get itself back to a normal state and you should be able to recharge it.
