Is there a clever way to flash someone on screen in a datafield for less than a second. Say 300ms or so? onUpdate() fires approx once a second. But maybe some kind of animated GIF that is rendered once a second but only displays for a fraction of a second? I doubt that'll work. But there might be a way.
