How to get zones from method UserProfile.getPowerZones()

In SDK 9.1.0 four methods were added to UserProfile: getHeartRateZones2(), getPowerZones(), getFunctionalThresholdPower() and getCurrentSport2().
I can get data from three of them but not from getPowerZones(), it returns null.

I tried it in the simulator and on my Edge 1050.
Did anyone try and succeed?

This is what I coded to test the method:

if (UserProfile has :getPowerZones) {
    System.println("Using getPowerZones from UserProfile");
    var sport = UserProfile.getCurrentSport2();
    var pZones;
    System.println("sport: " + sport);
    if (sport != null && sport.size() > 0) {
        System.println("Using getPowerZones for sport: " + sport[0]);
        pZones = UserProfile.getPowerZones(sport[0]);
        System.println("pZones1: " + pZones);
    }
}

  • The problem lies with Garmin. It just doesn't work with the 1040. And with the 850, 840, and 1050 models, it's purely a matter of luck.

  • With the SDK 9.3.0 I can test getPowerZones and it's working in the simulator. It's still not working on my Edge 1050. I have the latest formware and the app has been compiled/built with SDK 9.3.0.

  • When this feature was released, it worked on my 1050 from day one. However, it didn’t work on my 1040.

    Now that I’d received SDK 9.3.0, which allows you to configure power data in the simulator, I ran the next test on my 1040. And—drumroll—it worked on that device, too.
    So I thought to myself: They’ve done it. Now the world is ready for me to update my data fields to receive power data from devices in the xx40, xx50, and xx60 series.
    I submitted a whole series of updates.

    And what happened?

    A flood of complaints that the power zones—especially on the Edge 1040—no longer work! And their devices were running version 31.33 or newer beta versions.
    So I had to revert to older versions for the Store.

    A whole day’s work for nothing but complaints.

    Thanks a lot, Garmin.

    There’s simply no explanation for why it works on some devices, like mine, and not on others—even with the same software! Grimacing
