Couldn't connect to simulator

Hi,

I have issue where my Windows 8.1 Machine can't connect to the simulator. I took a break of about 8 months from development, where I could connect before. I had a previous post on here, but I dropped the ball on that one. (https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?364672-Couldn-t-connect-to-simulator).
I have installed Eclipse Neon.2, and the Connect IQ software. I still have issues connecting to the simulator as in my previous post. I have rolled back to an older version of the SDK, and it gives up after 5 attempts. I tried doing 'blind development', but I seem to get a run-time error on my Fenix 3 where the bitmap won't load to the background. I need to use the simulator to see what is happening.

I've seen lots of people complain about this problem, but I've never seen a solution and never run into the issue myself.

Does the simulator window popup at all, or do you just see the connection failure messages?
If the simulator doesn't appear, are you able to run it directly (simulator.exe is in ${SDKROOT}/bin)?
Once the simulator is running, are you able to use it?

Hi Travis,

The simulator window does come up, but it is empty. There is nothing running inside it.
