[SOLVED] Settings (Connect IQ app) for sideloaded app - is this possible?

Hello,

I have temporarily lost access to my CIQ developer account and thus can't upload new versions of my apps (the issue has been reported to Garmin and I know when I can use CIQ again, but it is about 7 weeks until then).

In the meantime, I would still like to develop new versions of my apps and use them on my own device. Is there a way to sideload an app and still use the settings in the CIQ app?

Transferring the ".prg" file alone doesn't provide me with the option to use the settings.

My apps need to be configured using the settings and won't work without them...

I've been using settings with sideloads. A .SET file with matching name to your sideload will appear in /GARMIN/Apps/SETTINGS, once your PRG is accepted. It will be structured to match the the settings defined in your app, and all values will be at their default.

To manipulate this, I have been prototyping a .SET file editing tool that will make its way into my little Bazel-based SDK extension project at some point. For now though, i you want to try it, build it from https://pastebin.com/QxPQGGaJ.

Ah, I now re-read the original request more carefully. If you want settings in the CIQ app specifically, then yeah my approach won't work for you, sorry.

I just tried sideloading my app and no such file got created...

Will this be created while the watch is connected to the PC or do I have to unplug/replug it in order to get the file?

I tried both and it didn't work...

I have uploaded my .prg file named "garminstundenplan.prg" to the APPS folder but there are only ".SET" files with technical names (I assume app ids of some sort) in the APPS/SETTINGS folder on the watch...

EDIT:

I just tried manually creating the file with the same name as my sideloaded prg file, then copying both that file and the prg file to the watch. When unplugging it, it worked and now my app runs just as expected with all the correct settings. I copied the settings file from the Simulator, so with that method I also have some kind of editor....

out of 3 people who responded 1 told you that you can't do what you want, one told you what to do instead, one told you something else, but then told you that it's a mistake, and it won't help, and you're still trying to hit your head harder and harder into the wall...

I just tried the approach that zmullet posted and it worked (I can edit the settings on the PC), that will be my temporary solution until my account goes back into normal state...

I'll also mark that as verified answer so the thread is seen as solved...

If you just need to put static values there and you don't need to change them, then it's probably even easier to change the defaults in the properties
