VO2max during session in watch app

One of my watch-app's users complained that while using the app for walking the watch doesn't register VO2max and some of the other measures the usual Walk activity does. Is this the expected behaviour? I thought that recording an outdoors (GPS) session should behave the same in this regard

  • As far as I know VO2 max is only calculated using some specific activities from Garmin itself, walk, run and bike, if the user stays a certain time within given heartrate zones. Even the Garmin Hiking activity doesn't trigger VO2 max calculations. The only 'other' way is to build an exercise including one of those activities, but I can guess that won't serve your needs.

  • Yes, but that's more or less what I meant: Not to use the built-in Walk activity, but a watch-app that starts a session recording using walk as sport. I'll ask the user if they had at least 20 minutes (I think that would be the minimum to get VO2max even when using the built-in Walk activity). Ah, and maybe there's also that they have to have at least 2 outdoors (GPS) activities within a week or 2 weeks?

  • Ah oke. I don't know the exact rules, I always try to stay for 20 minutes in blue and green hrz during an activity but also noticed sometimes it is not recalculated.
