Can I use OpenJDK instead of Oracle Java?

I'm not allowed to install Oracle SW on my work PC, which I'd like to use also for CIQ development. So, wondering if I can use OpenJDK?

There are some really old discussions in the forum, but wondering if someone have tried recently, now that development has moved to Visual Studio? Any other alternative?

Here's what I've been using on win11 for some time:

C:\Users\James>java -version
openjdk version "17.0.2" 2022-01-18
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 17.0.2+8-86)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server…

I use the OpenJDK (installed via Homebrew) on macOS. It works perfectly fine.

It used to be that there was a significant (although subtle) difference between OracleJDK and OpenJDK for versions before and including Java 8, but for 9+ they are identical IMO. I used to only use Oracle, but now only use OpenJDK. Been using it for Connect IQ development for a while as well without issue. Any newer JVM should work.

Hi all, Thanks a bunch for the feedback - I have now tried it - and it all appears to work just fine. Using v24!
