[REQUEST] Time in Power/HR zones

I’m looking for new data field on 920XT

None of the watches on the market have this feature, yet it is fundamental option in almost all the apps that manipulate the data on PC/WEB, garmin has it on their website, Strava, TrainingPeaks etc.

I’m sure many cyclists/runners would love those options: Time in Power Zone, Time in HR zone. Aka Distribution.

It would work as follow:

Power zones:

Display would show all 7 power zones:

Z1 Z2 Z3 Z4 Z5 Z6 Z7
30:32 00:09 00:00 12:05 00:34 03:13 00:00

Time below each zone in mm:ss. Active zone would be highlighted in green or any other color.

Zones are already stored in the watch, so if I would be going in particular power\HR zone would be added under that zone.

This way I would know real time how much time I have spent in each zone, it would allow to achieve training goals without structured workout.

Many times I want to log at list 12min in Z5, it is impossible to log it at one go, counting intervals on the road it is almost impossible. This would really help in power and HR based training.

Same would apply for HR zones.

Here is example, under power zones/ heart rate zones.

Seems like this would not be hard to implement.
  • After you finished an activity, you can see the time spent in each zone on your 920.
If you want to know the zone your training in, there's a field for that too, or you can use my Heart Rate With Zone field.
  • I'm aware I can check the time after the activity is finished but that doesn't help in training.
If you train indoor and are trying complete certain intervals, it is very easy to do Threshold day or VO2MAX day. All you do is follow predefine intervals in desirable zone.

But when you are riding outside it is very hard to precisely to log 12-16min in VO2MAX, or 30min in Threshold zone. Especially when you live in large city or urban area with a lot of intersections and street lights, After 2 hours of riding you have no clue how many minutes you have spent in VO2max, once you stop the activity is to late to clock it more.

Same applies to HR and Power zone - this number shows actual zone you are riding in, it is very useful for pacing, but not much for determining total time so far spent in particular zone. So far when I'm riding outside and want to spend 12-16min in VO2max I'm always riding less or way more, totally killing myself unnecessarily with forced recovery ride next day, instead of another session of controlled VO2Max.
You can visually keep better\easier control of the session intensity and easier target particular area of weakness or development.
  • I would like this feature for cycling. Using a 510. Would like to have it display on Activity detail, and in spreadsheet View. Critical to training.

    Thanks!
  • I've implemented a few data fields that are based on time in heart rate zone. All of the apps keep track of the amount of time spent in each heart rate zone, so to do what you're asking is not difficult at all.

Unfortunately, the ConnectIQ API doesn't expose the user's heart rate zone or power zone information. Until this is made available, the only option is to estimate the values. Eventually support for application properties will be made available, so the user could configure them, but from a developers standpoint requiring the user to keep track of duplicate data is frustrating.

I'd happily implement such a data field when I get some time, but as I mentioned it isn't easy to do a good job of it until the required data is made available in ConnectIQ.

I would love data field that did this!! Please GARMIN expose user's HR zones in the API!!
  • I have it done already but need some more testing. Also showing so detailed info about time spent in zones is not that easy b/c not so much space on the screen.
Anyway it might be possible to show just minutes for eg 0, 0.5, 3, .. etc. for each zone.
Like Travis mentioned zones and max HR will be estimated, now connect IQ give us only user's resting HR, no max, no zones.
  • Please have this feature in garmin 510!

Yes I would like to have this featre in garmin 510 too!

Say if I go out on a cycling ride and aim to have 30mins spent at power zone 4, I would like to have an ability to know how much time I have spent in zone 4 while riding on the bike.

    Please!

ConnectIQ isn't available on the 510, so nobody outside of Garmin can help you.
  • any update on time in HR-Zones

    Hello,

i come from the Polar V800 and there was one page during the activity where i can see the time (format h:mm:ss) I spent in the 5 different hr-zones.

is there any data field in the appstore who is able to give me this information?

    kr Flo
  • Its on the way. Will be there in couple of days.
It will look similar to that with some customization http://st17.static.bikestats.pl/userimages,20150222,54847,56194,orig.jpg
