must have features from Connect IQ SDK 2.2.0 Biker Monkey >= 1.2.0 devices (Aikido Mo

I start a thread to (re)summarize very valuable Connect IQ SDK features that hurt not having them in older SDK devices (please feel free to expand or vote):

Garmin Team,

Can you please port back

- "Toybox::PersistedContent" class from SDK 2.2.0 (Biker Monkey) to SDK 1.2.0 (Aikido Monkey, to be useable by Epix, fenix watches)? API usage for Edge, Orgeon devices would fragment toolusage.

This feature does not seem to be soo memory consuming to judge an 2.2.0 device only. Or could you clarify on this.

    Hello,

Thank you so much for reaching out to us. Unfortunately, there are no plans to make Persisted Content available any of the currently unsupported devices. We strive to continue to provide all our developers the tools needed to make creative and engaging content and continue to do our best to push forward in that process. Thank you again for your suggestion.

  • If you're not going to give us the ability to download content directly onto the device itself, then at least have a word with the Garmin Connect devs and give us a way to import workouts and routes that way - it's absolutely ludicrous that there's still no way to get content from 3rd party sites onto a Fenix 3 unless you have a PC/laptop and the USB cable with you.
  • Hi sprouty76--I understand your frustration.

It's not an issue of whether or not we want to provide these capabilities. In fact, we would if we could! The fenix 3, in particular, is extremely tight on resources so we are simply unable to squeeze any more capabilities into the device (believe me, we tried). We did, however, bring as many Connect IQ 2 features back to these devices as possible. We laid some of this out on our developer blog when we released Connect IQ 2 earlier this year:

    https://developer.garmin.com/index.php/blog/post/connect-iq-2-the-biker-has-arrived

The first generation of Connect IQ devices weren't all designed with Connect IQ in mind, but were identified as good platforms upon which to build the foundations of Connect IQ. Because of its success, Connect IQ has outgrown some of these devices (quite literally), which is why the newer generation devices, like vivoactive HR, are built with more available memory, faster hardware, etc., to specifically provide allowances for Connect IQ.

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but hopefully that clarifies things a little.
