Is Garmin actively abandoning app development?

This has been sitting at the back of my mind for the last year or so, but now exacerbated since even beta app updates are delayed multiple days now, meaning I can't properly test my apps.

Thinks we've all noticed

No longer able to dispute reviews in the app store

The mess that is the new app statistics

Terrible launch of in app purchases and tons of weird accounting going on, at least from what I saw reading that channel, which now seems to be gone

No more dev conferences.  The last one was 2022 maybe?

At least the ConnectIQ dev team is still around and pushing new versions, but it seems overall, Garmin is willfully letting this start to die and not actively supporting developers anymore.

  • As someone that first started publishing CIQ apps a decade ago, attended all three in-person developer summits with Garmin's CIQ group, things have actually gotten better over the years.  There were virtual summits (GDVC), but they simply were pretty minimal compared to the in-perron ones - a few hours vs a few days,

The first couple years, if someone contacted Garmin support for any reason, they were often told to uninstall all their CIQ apps.  Garmin support really had no clue what CIQ was at that point.  While it's gotten better, there are weak spots at Garmin

  • As far as disputing reviews, the only ones I've ever disputed were clearly related to another app and the user was confused about what app they were commenting about.

Just because you get a 1 star review isn't a reason to dispute it.  We all get 1 star reviews at times.

  • “if someone contacted Garmin support for any reason, they were often told to uninstall all their CIQ apps.“

i still hear of this happening quite often

  • This is why they should contact you.  Even for Garmin problems, you'll learn ways to help.

"while this is a Garmin problem, have you tried...?"

You'll hear back from users with what worked, or what else they tried that did work,
