I'm interested in writing my own data field to calculate the estimated time of arrival for hikes in mountainous areas. However, I am not able to find any recent information on how to access the current course data.

Garmin's has its own ETA field, but it only works sometimes and does not provide a lot of flexibility.
For instance, if you need to reroute, the build in ETA apparently does not work, which means you need to do the calculations yourself, which is slow, not very dynamic and does not account for differences in trail slope.
I hope to see that my information is outdated and that course points are somehow available.
