CIQ Device Simulator Launch from running mc file Loads Blank Screen on Mac/VSCode - how to fix?

Hi!

I'm brand new to developing Garmin CIQ apps but I am interested in making some cool watch faces and possibly apps for my device (Fenix 7S).

I just installed what I thought was everything I needed (VS Code extension, latest SDK, latest Java) and followed the steps on the Getting Started guide.

I verified that the VSCode extension was installed correctly, and I am able to make new projects and select various devices to run the simulator on... however when I run the mc files (run without debugging) the simulator application opens but just shows a blank grey screen. I've tried making multiple different types of projects and using different device configurations. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the SDK and the VSCode extension.

I'm using a Mac M1 2020 running OSX Sonoma 14.6.1 and VS Code 1.54.1. I have installed Connect IQ SDK 8.1.0.

How can I fix this? I am eager to get started!

Do the samples in the SDK work?

Do you see any error message in VS Code, such as "unable to connect to simulator"?

I have this kind of problem intermittently - I end up quitting the sim using CMD-Q and running the app again, over and over again until it finally runs. But when I have this problem, the simulator displays an image of the device with no app running, not a blank screen.

If it happens to you every single time, it might be a different problem.
