File Transfer Mode

Hi there,

is there a way to activate the File Transfer Mode on the Edge without plugging/unplugging USB-C?

When in FTM I can exit that mode with the "eject" icon at the bottom right of the screen.
To re-enter in that mode I everytime need to unplug and plug again USB-C cable.

Is there a way to do this via Edge System Menu? Maybe an hidden option that can put the device in File Transfer Mode?

TL;DR if your watch is plugged into a computer, but is not in data transfer mode, then switching USB Mode to MTP / mass storage actually will cause the watch to go into data transfer mode.

Uhm not sure if offtopic... how dow you test your Connect IQ DataField on a real device?
I guess you manually upload to it, do your test and if everything ok, you submit your app to Connect IQ store...

ahah you're right. btw if you have a solution for this... It would be great.
It's super annoying keep plugging-unplugging USB-C cable just to upload new DataField version on the Edge and test it on the device...

I feel your pain, and I have no better solution. I can imagine in theory there might be a USB cable with a switch on it to disconnect it. I wouldn't expect Garmin to add one on theirs, but there might be such cable with a male connector on one end and a female on the other. Plugging that to the computer and then the Garmin cable into that and then to the watch might work.

to be honest I would expect a simple menu function that can turns the device into File Transfer Mode... it shouldn't be that hard... but maybe I am missing something here...

I don't remember how is it in edges, but in watches there's the USB mode in the system settings. If it's there on edges, try to see if it's changable while connected. But I would be surprised if it worked

well yes, on watch I can do as you said. But on Edge it seems there's no such an option... I am going to cry...

though I have to say that Long click Menu > Up click > Start > 5 * Up > change USB mode takes much more time than disconnecting the cable

I wonder why you have to connect the device so often. I test my code almost exclusively on the simulator, which behaves like the device in almost all situations.
To test a running activity, you can play a real activity-fitfile and see how all your calculations are affected and appear on the display.
