Launcher Icon

I can't find any info here that describes how/why the Launcher Icon would display. There was something from 9 years ago that said it wasn't used yet. But one user is reporting their EDGE device is showing the name of the data field and the launcher icon. This isn't a crash. I think the field is actually still running. I have no code that would render this view with that text string. Any ideas?

It really depends on the device and app type.

I think it was the vahr that displayed it when selecting a watch face. On watches today, you see it for widgets/glances and for activities. And on some, maybe when selecting a data field.

Best practice is to always have a reasonable one so it shows when needed. That's why you see the message about resizing it when you compile.
