I've read that its possible to side load an app on to the device. I have basic app that I want to test on a viviactive HR, I have already exported the .prg file, my Android device with Garmin connect is connected via USB and I can browse the android file system but I don't see the Garmin/Apps folder?
  • When you sideload, you copy the .prg to the device itself.

When you connect your watch to a PC, it will show up as a drive, and the .prg goes in \garmin\apps. The simplest way to do that in eclipse is to use "Build for device" in the Connect IQ menu in eclipse.

Look in the Programmer's Guilde that comes with the SDK, the section "Side Loading an App".

Thanks, however when I connect the android device it does not appear to have the \garmin\apps folder?

  • The Garmin/Apps folder is not on your android device, it is on the Garmin. To side-load the app onto your watch, you copy it onto the file system of the watch itself (bullets 4-6 below)....

    • In Eclipse, choose Connect IQ > Build for Device Wizard…
    • In the Build for Device Tool window:
    • Choose the project you wish to build
      • Choose the target device
      • Set an output location
      • Click Finish

    • Connect your device to the computer via USB (it should connect as mass storage and appear as a drive)
    • Copy the resultant PRG file from the output location to /GARMIN/APPS on your device
    • Disconnect your device; the app should be available for use

Connect your vivoactive_hr to your computer via the provided USB cable. Find the drive that represents the file system of the vivoactive_hr. Copy the .prg file to the GARMIN/Apps folder. Disconnect.

Hi. I am a new member, just got a Vivoactive HR and installed APPro Windsurf on it. The app measures speed and distance and I have it configured to record in Knots and Nautical Miles. When I see the results in Garmin Connect it shows results in Miles and MPH. Any idea how to fix this? Is this the right place to ask this question?
  • If you got it from the app store, the best way to get help is to use "Contact Developer" for that app in the store. There may also have a link to a support thread/forum.
