Is the email from garmin about Policy Update real?

I have received the following email, which looks pretty desperate and hurried

When you click Learn more it takes you via an insecure link to the generic Verification FAQ's.

But there is no section or ability to amend your verified account to flag it as a Trader.

So my question to Garmin is if it is just a case if being verified, then why has this email gone out to verified accounts?

And if it is not that, then please give us a meaningful FAQ list and a process to follow - Thanks

  • Are you verified?  If you log into the web based app store, do you see "About the Developer" on the right hand side if you view one of your apps? Submitting the form is one thing, but then you have to be approved.

There is a post here which could help:

    https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/f/discussion/402575/developer-registration

I didn't get the email.  I've been verified for a long time, but I know others who did, in one case, someone that was just approved a couple days back.

  • Last year when Garmin hastily announced the change I thought they realized too late and they ran out of time before it had to take effect because of some date it has to be in effect according to the European law.

But looking at last month's posts here it looks like either they are on their regular winter sleep or this is the normal way of doing things at Garmin, not thinking, just shooting...

  • Is money involved in your app?  If so, in any way, including a donation, is it set in your app details?  Maybe they are now enforcing the "tip or donation" part.

    Monetization

Do you plan on earning money from your Connect IQ app?

    Select Yes if:

    - Your app requests payment to enable any of its features.

    - Your app asks for tips or donations.

  • I have just submittet my request including upload of my ID. Got a green banner on developer site, saying: submit successful, will be processed within 1-3 business days.

    So, fingers crossed this time…

  • That's a fair point on the tips / donations so I have gone in and amended it to state its asks for tips / donations.

Maybe they sent the message to all devs who have an app or more not flagged as monetized or with donations, just to cover all - that would make sense
