CIQ System 8 - no announcement - but Fenix 8 series spoil the information

Hi Dev Community,

Edit - 20250107 - https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/b/news-announcements/posts/system-8-beta-now-available

---

You are some sort of warriors, fighting without Garmin announcement and sometimes partial documentation or erronous, you are strong and smart !!!

---

A user of EPIX 2 Pro receive system  20.06 Alpha version, CIQ System 8 (CIQ API 5.1.0), but no news about specific features or the one that were not pushed ...

---

Fenix 8 (same CIQ API 5.1.0) - https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/fenix-8-series/f/announcements/398518/beta-version-13-12---check-for-updates-only

  • Added CIQ System 8: Supports the latest Connect IQ apps, watch faces, and data fields.
  • Added connection type information for paired sensors.

Edge (maybe same API Level) - https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/edge-1050/f/announcements/398428/public-beta-12-07---pre-rollout

  • Added connection type information for paired sensors

---

No more SDK announcement since april 2024, when 7.2.0 / 7.3.0 / 7.4.0 are available, ok there is a readme file.

The last time, before new system release to Public, i saw Beta version for specific device models in the SDK Manager, but no one here (or new beta enrollment is needed ?)

---

Fit SDK announcement is funny too

  • And that's what a beta is for.  To find and fix bugs.  In the past, I can recall 3 beta releases for an SDK before a production release, which took weeks/months.

Now is the time to find and report bugs in the betas.

With beta releases you can't build an iq file, but if you want to try building a sideload for a device with the newest CIQ, don't forget the "-disable-api-has-check-removal" compiler flag so "has" is resolved at run time and not compile time, as at compile time, you won't be "System 8" for your devices.
