How to get promoted on the ConnectIQ "Recommended" section?

Currently I see (at least in my area) there are only two apps, and of course I wish mine was there too.

But didn't found any information on "promotion rules". How to get into the top of a category, how to advance, what features the algorithm prioritizes. It's crowdy place, mainly thanks to unlimited clones. And now I saw even Garmin is competing in the store with other watchfaces developers, which is not encouraging.

Apps who were there for years, are constantly on top making no room for new ones which makes it impossible to innovate and keeps user expectations unchanged.

Sometimes I see low-stats watchfaces higher, more visible than mine, so I whish I knew what I did wrong and how can I improve, but such information seems to be not available.

Please help if you know some sources for that subject.

  • Are you talking the store on your watch or the one on your phone?

As I've said in the past, Garmin has ever said exactly how rankings are determined, but it could include something like "views" where a user doesn't even have to install an app, much less rate it, to change where it is in the ratings.  People just need to look at it in the store.

The apps that have been in the store for a while earned their place, and replacing them with something new would be unfair to those devs.  Yes, I have apps that show on the front page of the web based store, or near the very top after clicking "more", but I also have a number you won't see even with "More" in a category.

"New and Fresh" is meant for new apps.  If I recall, apps will only show there for 4 months after they were first published, but rankings are involved.  That's why YouTube has been showing pretty much since it was released.

  • Oh, I mean the ConnectIQ on the phone.

And I don't see my watchface in "New" section, despite it has installs and good reviews.

But I see there maybe 90% of spammers like IoFace, Luxury Clock or Wonderful and others with ZERO installs and 0.0 rating.

So, ConnectIQ is not fair or badly programmed.

  • Yesterday all of these spammers raised their "install" base from zero to 10+ in automated manner.

All of them are nicely supported by KezielPay.

Yesterday I wrote this post. That's what I call "coincidence".

How long Garmin will keep ConnectIQ so unfair, unpleasant place for honest, hard working devs?

..and this is just a small sample from News section.

  • How do you know this was done in an "Automated manner"?  Getting downloads over a day happens, especially if the dev promotes them on social media.  Maybe kpay has a site to promote apps that use kpay for example.  There's also facebook, X, Instagram, etc.

Back when we could see the non-rounded numbers for downloads, I had apps where I'd see 100-200 new downloads in a week, and I wasn't doing anything in an "automated manner"

  • When someone publishes thousand of the same watchface at once, he obviously did it manually. I can only envy such persistence.

  • Which dev pushed 1000's of watch faces?

As far as automation, I know people that use a script to update the store, when something happens like just happened with the f8 announcement.  Is that wrong? I (manually) updated about 20 apps the same day when the f8 was available for CIQ....

  • Are you a spokesperson for spammers rights or what?

You can browse by categories, over 3000 items:

  • Show me where in the store rules what they are doing is forbidden....

  • Just stop and please don't talk to me in this manner.

  • As there is no rule, what would you propose as a rule?
