Stats not adding up to 100

My download stats are only adding up to about 50%, and I think it's because the rest are still using older versions from more than 5 months ago (which is when the oldest v1.2.2 in the screenshot was deployed).

Is it normal for it to take several months for updates to deploy (to half of your user base)? Is there any way I can see percentages for all versions >0% so they add up to 100?

  • It's normal. Some of my user's never update, even after 2 years, they'll be stuck with whatever version they installed.

  • My stats are still at 50% for the current app version after more than a year. I wonder if the older-version users are actually non-users? For example, maybe they have the app installed but have not used it in a long time and for some reason their device does not automatically install app updates. Or maybe they use their device without ever syncing to a phone (although I'm not sure how that's possible if they downloaded CIQ apps). Or maybe these numbers are for devices that are no longer used at all and they're sitting in someone's drawer or on an electronics recycle pile waiting to get dissected. And even then, if the app is never uninstalled, does it still get counted in these stats?

It would be nice to see stats for current users, e.g., users who have the app installed and have synced with their phone within the last 3 months. Because I thought it's supposed to be a standard thing now for apps to update automatically upon syncing?

  • What is your min API version? The stats only include System5 and above devices. Is it possible that you have a significant number of users with old devices?

  • Ooohh, I did not realize that. Or maybe it only represents devices that the current app version is compatible with?

About a year ago, I created a separate legacy app to continue to support legacy devices, so the compatible device list for the main app got a lot shorter. The stats page for the legacy app (which is for API 3.2 and below) is close to 100.

So this means several legacy devices still have the first app installed even though it is no longer compatible with their device? Maybe that’s why the app never updated? If a developer removes a device from the app compatibility list, is the user still able to use the older version (even several years later)?

Regardless, the stats data is incomplete. Percentages are supposed to add up to 100. It would be nice to have a footnote or caption on the stats page explaining these limitations.
