Latest SDK (7.2.1). This value seems to quickly settle into a fixed value. "currentSpeed" works, but the distance broke.

Is that what you are using? For me, playing back a fit file works much better.
Yes I've always used data simulation. Never tried playing back a FIT file. Thanks. So just use a FIT file from an activity you've done? I'll start doing that.
I collected fit files over the years, from my own activities and some from friends (Things like an ultra or two).
They are really nice if you want to reproduce something when doing a bug fix or adding a new function.
They are best if they were recorded with 1 second recording vs smart recording. With smart, the data can jumps every few seconds vs being smooth.
