Facemaker v1.3.121

HI!

Thanks to the help from the most knowledgeable users here, Facemaker now supports Garmin!

www.youtube.com/watch

But only devices with AMOLED with API 5.0.0 are supported.
I think this is a revolution for Garmin and it would really help Garmin sales in Europe.

You can now really create a Garmin watchface in minutes, using nothing but your imagination. Just watch my videos.
I'm, also developing the Facemaker watchface store which will feature wearOS, but I'd really love to include Garmin.

I also have my own payment system ready to go, for all the designers out there, using Stripe.

My question is, (considering no one from Garmin admin reads this), can I include Garmin on my market?

Will I be sued?

Respectfuly, I know most of the designers here can barely create a complex watchface or just take too long to create it.
But now, you can create it in a couple of hours!
If you only take a couple of hours to create a watch face, would it be useful for you? Or am I wasting my time with Garmin?

I have been discouraged by a friend, regarding the inclusion of Garmin on my store, but I believe that this could be a very lucrative endeavour, for the both of us, Garmin and me.
A true market, where everyone could participate, not only programmers like me, but also designers... more offer and more sales.
I have thousands of users ready to go, just give me a green light.
If an executive from Garmin sees this, please contact me. I'm really positive about this.
My email is [email protected].

All the other users, let me know what you think!

All the best,

Nuno

  • I said I'll buy one, are you missing my posts? Go review this thread.
Anyway, I thank you for all the exposure on FM. Yes, Facemaker.
This thread is on top because of you and everyone will see it. Thanks to you and everyone criticising without testing.
Because you do realize that's what you're doing, right?

    Criticise. Have you tested it?
You haven't. So, you clearly have some agenda.

I'll keep replying to you guys endlessly and I thank you, for all the exposure.

  • We're on board to deliver great, new and fresh designs to Garmin users.

  • AKA - "More Spam in the Store".

  • Oh, stop it with the "SPAM" argument, ffs.
For me, if a watchface is good and not a repetition of what was previously posted, it's not SPAM.
I'm sure my users won't do it, because I know them.
You're spamming now with your rhetoric and I won't take it.

    You're clearly atacking me now.
What are you so affraid of?

  • You've been somewhat helpful with some queries of mine, but now, you're just trying to be mean.
    What happened?

  • Come on Jim, give it to me straight.
    You don't like the newcomer?

  • AKA - "More Spam in the Store".

I can't even imagine more spam than there is today. in today's era, AI would not be a bad tool that could recognize the optical similarity in the developer's designs and not allow him to constantly make one dial after another. but he could easily get around this by creating another account (and this is definitely happening today). the system would not have to prohibit him from publishing, but it could suppress his "smartness" and overall he would have a lower priority in the gallery. this would bring quality to the fore.

  • I appreciate the effort and I don’t have a problem with it in principle, including the monetization part. I do take issue with OP saying it’s not a business. Just bc a business is currently unprofitable and self-funded, doesn’t mean it’s not a business. Clearly it’s not a charity or a simple hobby project. But the fact that it’s intended to one day make money (or at least be self-sustaining) is fine with me. Just be transparent about it and don’t get offended when ppl call a spade a spade.

I was just curious about a few things. OP is the one who asked if Garmin would sue them, so clearly they were also curious about a few things too.

Just bc OP did something cool that they were passionate about, with their own blood, sweat and tears, doesn’t mean anyone else (especially Garmin) has to like it. The tech industry is full of stories about passionate hobby projects with tons of fans that were ruthlessly shut down by the likes of Nintendo.

In the end it doesn’t matter what we think, it matters what Garmin thinks.

My contrarian (wrt the dev community) opinion is that anything which allows end users (designers, watch owners) to make their own data fields and watchfaces is a good thing. That’s why Garmin provides the FaceIt! watchface builder, right? But ofc devs will always feel threatened by anything that takes us out of the loop or renders us obsolete. In the real world, MBAs have hoped for years to mostly or completely replace devs with reusuable “zero-code” application config frameworks which can be directly utilized by the end user. With LLMs, this fantasy comes closer to reality every day.

So yeah I don’t blame some devs for pushing back. There’s also the ongoing discussion about the current deluge of “spam” watchfaces on the store which enters into the equation. Many devs are discouraged that they spend a ton of time trying to create quality watchfaces which are rendered invisible by this torrent. I’m not saying that OPs watchfaces are necessarily spam, but it’s understandable to see these reactions, given that context.

Speaking of passion, I actually made a data field app which allowed for end-user customization in a very primitive way (basically excel for watches where the user enters a custom formula to “remix” data that’s already available to CIQ apps). It failed to take off for some very obvious reasons (nobody wants to type in an excel-like formula to display custom data, and I didn’t provide a UI to make it easier), but there was a tiny community of users. I spent many hours of my own personal time on that project (and others) with zero expectation of reward. Ppl offered to donate and I refused. I also have a couple of other niche fields which do stuff that no other app does. (To be fair, the demand for what they do is fairly low. But for one of them, someone approached me to start a business and I turned them down.)

That doesn’t make me a selfless hero or anything, I’m just saying I can appreciate doing stuff for passion.

Anyone who frequents these forums and spends time answering questions (in some cases, doing original research or independent troubleshooting) knows to some degree what it means to be somewhat passionate about Garmin or Connect IQ, with little or no expectation of reward (except maybe for a warm fuzzy feeling when someone’s problem is solved.)

  • I don't like you are in this for money, using something that have NEVER run on a real device.

  • I repeat, I WILL buy a real device.
Now, don't you think you're acting a little biased here?
Just think for a moment. I've been nothing but thankful here and all i got was "you have to do this" and "you'll have to do that".
I'm nothing but thankful for being able to provide this service to Garmin, but all I got was "get outta here" attitude.
Please, stop posting on my thread. or rather, don't stop. Any publicity is good publicity.

And I still think you're awesome Thumbsup
