Registering wrist heart rate over longer periods

Hi everybody,

I am new to this Forum, so excuse me for making a possible mistake: I tried to find a suitable corner within the forum to post this question. This seemed the most promising place although my question is not really about the development of an app.

So here it is: I recently purchased a Forerunner 735xt. It has a wrist heart rate meter and it provides some details about my heart rate from the last 4 hours. Being a stats-enthusiast I'd like to see what my HIIT-workouts actually do with my metabolism. To be able to do some calculations, I need long-term heart rate data. Storing and downloading my heart rate in a 4 hour interval would be great, but it would be nice if I could collect it every 24 hour. If that's possible I'd like to compare it between pre and post workout.

The actual question is: is it possible, or is there an app which will give me the opportunity to collect my heart rate data over a longer period, NOT related to exercise?? My heart rate during sleep would be a great way to start.

Anyway, if somebody has an idea, please let me know.

thanks

  • Hey Casper,

Thanks for reaching out in our Forums. There is not currently a set of tools in our language to do this specifically. A skilled third party developer may be able to find a way to gather the necessary information, but given the tools currently it would be somewhat complicated to do. It comes down to what Connect IQ has access to in the watch and the memory/power constraints it would cause. For example you could certainly record an activity to gather heart rate info, but lose out on the other functions of the watch and it would lose power quickly. A widget has access limited to 4 hours of data and must be active to work (also limiting functionality). Something like a watch face is low powered enough, but doesn't have access to write out those settings in a very usable way. All that to say, it might be possible, but it is currently complicated. As another note, for devices like the 735 with 24/7 activity tracking it will give you a daily graph in your Garmin Connect account, though it may not give you the type of pinpointed data you are looking for.

    Hi Coleman,

Thanks for your reply. I understand. One question left though. There is this screen, 'one below the regular time', which provides my heart rate of the last 4 hours. Is that data available when I plug my watch into my computer? When I plug it in, all kinds of folders containing fit files are ready to be copied to my computer.....

    Thanks again,

The heart rate history data is not logged to a file on the device.
