Testing on actual device (920xt) + widget/apps question

Hi,
sorry if this has been asked already but I just wanted to confirm before ordering a FR920xt...

1) Can I test apps on an actual device? I mean: I have downloaded the SDK, the Eclipse plug-in and everything works OK in the simulator. I can generate the .prg file. Assuming I had an actual 920xt device, could I just connect it and drag/drop the .prg in a folder of the device, and then test the code on the device, without going through apps.garmin.com?

2) I see that widgets and apps are not listed on the store. Assuming I create a widget (or an app), and assuming that the answer to 1) above is yes, can I install a widget (or app) on the 920xt by dragging and dropping it in the appropriate folder? To put it in another way: is the limitation to watch faces and data fields a limitation of the store, or a limitation of the firmware?

I'm a newbie, so please forgive me if this should be clear from the documentation or from some other link...

Thanks,
F
  • You can side load data fields and watch faces on a 920, provided it is running the 2.64 firmware. You have to build the application for your device via the ConnectIQ menu in Eclipse and then copy the file to the Garmin/Apps folder, but it works. The beta firware doesn't have support for widgets or apps.
