Samsung SmartThings still available?

Hi,

I am looking for a way to control smart home devices from my new Garmin Epix Gen 2. The devices are supported by Samsung SmartThings, and there seems to be a Garmin app for that, at least according to Google. But if I search for "SmartThings" in the ConnectIQ app, there are no results, and when clicking on the Google result, the Connect IQ app returns a server error.

Is the SmartThings app for Garmin not available anymore?

The device I am trying to control is an Shelly relay, which I can integrate into SmartThings. As a complication, I want to be able to control it from outside my home, i.e. via Internet connection, not only the local WiFi. So I need to work via the Shelly cloud. I also installed the Garmin MyHomeControl, but for the Shelly cloud I need a POST request, and at least from what I see in its configuration MyHomeControl only supports GET requests. I anyway wrote to the developer to ask if there is a way to define a POST request.

Any other ideas for controlling smart home devices from Garmin? I also have openHAB running at home, but it is not exposed to the Internet.

OK, it seems SmartThings is not available anymore for current Garmin devices. When I choose my old Fenix 3 in Connect IQ, it finds the SmartThings app, but when choosing the Epix Gen 2 it does not.

It was last updated 4/2023.

It doesn't seem like it would take any effort to recompile it for newer devices.

Though, recent reviews seem to indicate there are issues with it.

I sort of doubt we are going to see a lot of support for the various home automation systems.

There's always Home Assistant.

Thanks. Unfortunately I am already using openHAB and would not want to introduce HomeAssistant just for the Garmin integration. Though here HA obviously has the edge, there is no such Garmin app for openHAB.

In any case, I am now trying to get it to work via the MyHomeControl widget, either by using the cloud service from Shelly or openHAB. Setting that up is not very user friendly, but I actually need only one smart home device on my Garmin, so it is not a big deal. Will report back here once I have a final solution.

I realized Home Assistant would be the nuclear option for you.

I saw MyHomeControl.

There are a few apps that support IFTTT.

I tried both myopenhab.org and the Shelly cloud. I could get both to work via Postman, but the requests are POST and I did not yet manage to setup the URL in MyHomeControl via the jspost method for it to work. Still tinkering ...

From what I could see the apps that you linked do not support POST but only simple GET requests.

In case I cannot get POST requests to work with MyHomeControl, I'll check out IFTTT. Especially interesting for me would be to understand how secure it is, i.e. how would authentication work if you just call an URL with GET parameters.

I now found another Garmin app called APICall. It is much better documented than MyHomeControl and also supports POST requests. However according to its documentation Garmin supports only form or json content for POST body content. openHAB expects a plain text content, so that won't work, but Shelly works with form content, and that works.

I'd still like to figure out a way to go via openHAB, because it would allow me to control other, non-Shelly devices, but for the one I wanted to work with right now, the route via Shelly works fine.

I tried Shelly 1 (gen 1) and it didn't work (APICall), which device/type worked for you?
